X Factor Winner takes the stage

Australian X Factor winner announced as Reece Mastin, 17, who is originally from England moving to Australia 6 years ago. Mastin won singing a duet with Kylie Minogue. He is about to turn 17, saying that winning "was not a bad birthday present.". The teenager says he is excited to pursue music but thinks it's important to finish school first .

Asian Cup Socceroos advance with a 1-0 victory

On Tuesday, Australia advanced in the Asian Cup past Thailand to round two. It was a very low scoring game with the only goal scored during the last fourteen minutes by Australia's Brett Holman. The win in Bangkok takes Australia to the final stages of the 2014 World Cup.

Australia to lift ban on Uranium to India

Prime Minister Gillard has decided to go forward and remove the old restriction on exporting uranium to India.  This ban was originally put out for  "peaceful purposes," but now is being said to be "outdated." This change in policy is hoped to help Australia's relationship with India.  Gillard says, "time for Labor to modernize our platform and enable us to strengthen our connection with dynamic, democratic India.'

A new carbon tax

Recently a new carbon tax will be passed upon which companies and households must pay roughly $23 for every ton that is released into the air. Although this could be pricy, it is hoped that this will help reduce the amount if pollution in our atmosphere. -du

Peter Roebuck Found Dead at age 55

Renowned cricket writer Peter Roebuck was found dead in his hotel in South Africa on Sunday, at the age of 55.  Roebuck began his career playing cricket, and followed by writing about the sport.  He was covering the sport in South Africa.  Police cannot find any cause of the death, however there were reports of Roebuck being in an "agitated state" earlier that day.    Roebuck wrote extensively for the Sydney Morning Herald, and the The Age.  Many are shocked and sad over his sudden death.
